Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, has reaffirmed the Ethiopia's commitment to the rights and safety of displaced people, vowing that the country will maintain its leading role in the international humanitarian arena.

Speaking at a ceremony marking International Migrants Day, the Deputy Prime Minister honored "Migration Champions"—individuals and organizations recognized for driving positive change within migrant communities.

Temesgen emphasized that the governments "citizen-centric"policy has made the dignified repatriation and resettlement of Ethiopians stranded abroad a top priority. However, he also called for a fundamental shift in how the world views displaced populations.

"We do not view migrants as a burden or a source of problems," DPM Temesgen stated. "Rather, we see them as catalysts for innovation and success who strengthen economies and deepen the cultural ties between nations."

Guided by the national philosophy of Medemer(synergy), Ethiopia currently hosts more than one million refugees and migrants from across the region. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that by providing legal protection and essential services, Ethiopia remains a primary implementer of the Global Compact on Migration.

He reminded the international community and domestic stakeholders alike that upholding the dignity of migrants is more than a policy requirement; it is a "moral obligation."

As a major country of origin, transit, and destination, Ethiopia occupies a unique position in the global migration crisis. Temesgen called for enhanced international coordination to ensure that migration remains legal, safe, and humane.

The Deputy Prime Minister concluded by reiterating Ethiopias resolve to build an inclusive world, stressing that the country would continue to champion the safety of those seeking refuge within and beyond its borders.
