A high-level Ethiopian delegation has met with Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh to discuss regional security and the performance of critical trade infrastructure.

The delegation was led by Adem Farah, who serves as the Vice President of the ruling Prosperity Party and Head of the Democratic System Building Coordination Center, with the rank of Deputy Prime Minister.

The talks in Djibouti City focused on what officials described as an "exemplary" partnership in the Horn of Africa. Both sides pledged to maximize mutual economic benefits by strengthening cross-border ties.

A central objective of the mission was to evaluate the joint projects that underpin the relationship between the two neighbors. As a landlocked nation, Ethiopia relies on Djibouti for the vast majority of its international trade.

The delegation conducted a site visit to the Doraleh Multipurpose Port to inspect logistics operations. Key areas of focus included:

Trade Flow: Assessing the efficiency of services provided for Ethiopia’s vital imports and exports.

Railway Performance: Reviewing the transit of heavy freight from the coast into the Ethiopian interior via the Ethio-Djibouti railway.

According to a statement from the Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti, the visit concluded with a joint commitment to accelerate the implementation of shared development goals.

The visit comes as Ethiopia continues to seek diverse and efficient avenues for sea access to support its growing economy.
