Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos (PhD) stated that everyone must stand together regarding the issue of a sea outlet. The minister made these remarks while responding to questions and providing clarifications to members of the 6th House of Peoples' Representatives during its 6th regular session held today.
Providing an overview of Ethiopia's current diplomatic activities, Dr. Gedion noted that Ethiopia maintains good relations with most countries in the region. He characterized the region as an arena where global powers compete to secure their national interests, adding that Ethiopia is likewise conducting its diplomatic work in a manner that safeguards its own national interests.
Furthermore, he pointed out that efforts to link with neighboring countries through infrastructure—specifically electric power, railways, and other developmental projects—will continue to be strengthened.
Regarding the quest for a sea outlet, the minister explained that work is being carried out in line with a long-term strategic plan to find a solution. He mentioned that efforts have been made to sensitize the international community to Ethiopia's agenda on this matter.
Emphasizing that the demand for a sea outlet is a "generational question," he explained that the issue transcends any single government or political party. Consequently, he stated that this national issue should be maintained as a collective agenda and promoted at every available opportunity.
