Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has hailed the recent progress in domestic railway construction as a "remarkable" milestone, emphasizing that Ethiopia’s ability to build infrastructure using internal capacity is essential for the nation's economic sovereignty. Speaking during a visit to the Ethio-Djibouti Railway Share Company on Sunday, the prime minister underscored that as the national economy scales, the modernization of the logistics sector must keep pace to prevent it from becoming a permanent barrier to growth.

The Prime Minister’s visit served as a critical assessment of the country's national logistics operations and an opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue on how to align transport readiness with Ethiopia's broader development goals. He noted that the achievements seen in the railway sector today are a direct result of a firm commitment to building domestic capacity and improving operational efficiency. By prioritizing internal resources over external dependence, the government aims to ensure long-term sustainability within the transport industry.

Beyond the tracks, Dr. Abiy outlined a vision for a modernized, "full-chain" logistics system that seamlessly connects maritime ports to local warehouses. He pointed out that essential upgrades are already underway across dry ports, highways, and storage facilities to bridge existing gaps.
