Ethiopian Aviation University is more than a training facility; it is a global benchmark for excellence, according to Eyeghe Serges Curtys Itou, a Gabonese pilot who recently graduated from the institution.

Itou was part of a cohort of aviators who completed their flight training in Addis Ababa under a scholarship program funded by the Gabonese government.

Speaking to EBC DotStream, the pilot reflected on the rigorous standards maintained by the Ethiopian Airlines Group. He noted that from the classroom to the cockpit, professional ethics and safety protocols remain “non-negotiable.”

According to Itou, the university’s curriculum goes beyond technical proficiency. He credited the institution with fostering the mental resilience required to handle the high-pressure environment of commercial aviation.

“The instructors were patient and consistent,” he said. “They corrected our mistakes and guided us through every stage of practice. This foundation is irreplaceable for our future success in both flight operations and aircraft maintenance.”

The pilot also emphasized the collaborative nature of the industry, urging his fellow graduates to maintain a sense of collective responsibility to ensure air transport remains safe “from departure to arrival.”

The university, a subsidiary of the Ethiopian Airlines Group, currently holds a mandate as a Regional Center of Excellence for Africa, a designation recognized by the United Nations.
