Ethiopia is set to double its Air Force capacity within the next five years as part of a strategic roadmap toward fifth-generation combat technology by 2030. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), speaking at the 90th Anniversary of the Air Force, declared that the era of winning through "flesh and bone" has passed. He explained that the government has already identified specific budgets and sources to ensure this transition, emphasizing that advanced technology must be paired with a human force that never tires of learning and is dedicated to the country until the end of life. The Prime Minister noted that while some regional actors remain stuck on MiG-21 technology, Ethiopia is moving forward to shorten wars through precision and firepower. He also acknowledged the presence of former leaders like Lt. General Tsadkan Gebretensae and General Samora Yunis, framing the current progress as a cumulative result of efforts made across different eras to reach the nation's current stature.
