President Taye Commends Rotary Ethiopia’s 70-Year Legacy of Humanitarian Service

President Taye Atskeselassie has commended Rotary Ethiopia for seven decades of "meaningful and transformative" service in the health and development sectors during a commemorative event held at the National Palace. As the patron of Rotary Ethiopia, the President highlighted the organization’s specialized values and steadfast commitment to the nation, specifically citing its critical role in the monumental campaign to eradicate polio. He noted that the organization has significantly contributed to elevating the standard of health services across Ethiopia, expressing profound gratitude for their long-term humanitarian efforts and the lives changed through their volunteerism.

Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba also extended her appreciation, acknowledging Rotary Ethiopia’s success in eliminating polio and its broader contributions to the national health system. She emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening this strategic partnership to further improve healthcare infrastructure and delivery. In response, Rotary International President Francisco Orezo stated that the global organization is currently dedicating more than one billion dollars toward the international effort to end polio, ensuring that Ethiopia and other nations receive the support necessary to maintain these health gains.

The 70th-anniversary celebration concluded with a high-level discussion between President Taye and President Orezo, where they explored future collaborations beyond the medical field. Their dialogue centered on enhancing efforts in education, peace-building, and sustainable development. Both leaders reaffirmed their determination to play a constructive role in advancing the well-being and social status of the Ethiopian people, signaling a continued and robust partnership for years to come.
