Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed revealed that Ethiopia’s merchandise exports surged to $5.1 billion over the last six months, shattering government targets by 20% and marking a staggering 56% increase compared to the previous year.

The Prime Minister’s report highlighted a diversified and strengthening economy. Beyond traditional goods, service exports contributed $4.5 billion, while remittances from the Ethiopian diaspora added another $4.6 billion to the national coffers. This influx of foreign currency was bolstered by $2.3 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), a figure PM Abiy cited as clear evidence of "successful macroeconomic management" and growing international confidence in Ethiopia's reform agenda.

A significant portion of the address was dedicated to the dramatic growth of Ethiopia's state-led and digital sectors. The Prime Minister noted that Ethiopian Airlines has reached new heights, transporting 10.7 million passengers in just six months—already surpassing the roughly 8 million passengers it carried annually at the start of his reform period.

Parallel to this, the nation’s digital landscape has exploded:

Mobile Connectivity: Active users have jumped from 37 million to 97 million.

Financial Inclusion: Mobile money services, such as telebirr, now serve 58 million users.

Next-Gen Infrastructure: The government is rapidly expanding 5G technology, with the number of cities enjoying high-speed access set to reach 30 shortly.

PM Abiy concluded that these milestones were not "mere statistics" but the direct result of focused policy efforts to modernize the economy and improve the daily lives of citizens. By integrating infrastructure, digital services, and disciplined fiscal management, the Prime Minister asserted that Ethiopia is successfully transitioning from an aspirational vision to "tangible, visible, and palpable" prosperity.
