Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed said during a visit to the site on Sunday alongside Africa’s top investor Aliko Dangote that the Gode fertilizer factory will completely transform the Somali Region's economic capacity and appearance, serving as a critical strategic pillar for Ethiopia's agricultural transformation and ultimate food sovereignty. He emphasized that this massive undertaking goes far beyond basic infrastructure, as it is designed to eradicate the nation's dependence on foreign imports, sustainably support millions of farmers, and drive economic self-sufficiency. The progress visit allowed the leaders to review the construction of the mega-project, which officially commenced late last year following a stakeholder agreement in August and the subsequent start of construction in October.

The project represents an investment of over three billion dollars and will establish an annual production capacity of three million metric tons of urea fertilizer. During the site review, the Prime Minister announced that a new agreement has been reached with Dangote to fast-track the original 40-month timeline and deliver results even sooner. Construction is currently moving at an encouraging pace across the entire site, with land preparation, water pipeline installation, and input procurement progressing smoothly.

Furthermore, dedicated housing for five thousand workers is actively being built and is expected to be fully operational by this coming September. The government has assured close monitoring and continuous support to ensure the fast-tracked facility quickly resolves one of the country's primary economic bottlenecks while opening new doors for job creation and investment.
