President Taye Atske-Selassie of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia stated that the high level of participation shown by Ethiopians in the recently held 7th general election confirms the country’s transition from a reliance on force to the dominance of ideas.

The president made these remarks at an appreciation ceremony organized by the Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council regarding the 7th general election.

In his address, he noted that fostering a democratic culture and strengthening independent institutions have been top priorities in the country's state-building process in recent years.

"Dialogue, consultation, and adherence to the rule of law are hallmarks of civilized politics," the president stated, noting that Ethiopia's transition toward the politics of ideas is gaining traction.

He remarked that the success achieved in this year's general election, spanning preparation, the voting process, and post-election procedures, serves as an example of the nation's readiness and vision for a civilized political landscape.

Explaining why millions turned out to cast their votes, President Taye noted that, beyond their love for the country and desire for peace, the people acted to confirm their role as masters of their own destiny and to affirm that power is derived solely from the consent of the public.

Furthermore, he explained that the public participated actively to move beyond the path of violence and destruction, to foster hope within a civilized political context, and to lay a reliable foundation for the next generation.

The President concluded by emphasizing that by strengthening these democratic practices and building robust institutions, a sustainable guarantee for the future and prosperity of Ethiopians must be secured.
