The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has confirmed that results from all constituencies have reached the central office, where final tabulation efforts are in full swing. Chairperson Melatwork Hailu highlighted the Board’s commitment, noting that staff have been working tirelessly around the clock to ensure the integrity of the verification process.
Out of 1,139 total electoral sites, the Board has successfully processed results for 501 seats in the House of Peoples' Representatives and 638 for Regional Councils. Of these, 723 have already been officially approved and are currently being entered into the central database.
Meanwhile, the verification and audit processes for an additional 253 sites have been completed, with teams currently preparing these files for the Board’s final review to ensure every piece of data undergoes a rigorous audit for total accuracy.
Addressing the resolution of election disputes, Chairperson Melatwork Hailu provided a clear update on the 129 constituencies where complaints had been lodged. She emphasized that the majority of these cases have been effectively resolved, with only 43 now remaining. A team of highly experienced legal professionals has been dedicated to handling these grievances with meticulous care.
So far, the exhaustive investigation process has led to the dismissal of complaints in 75 constituencies, as experts determined they lacked sufficient basis. In 10 other instances, the complainants proactively withdrew their claims before an investigation could commence.
Most notably, in one constituency, the evidence presented was compelling enough to trigger a Board-ordered recount, which is currently underway. The Board expects to finalize the investigation into all remaining complaints within the next two days, ensuring a swift and definitive resolution for every contested result.
