Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has reaffirmed his government's unwavering commitment to lasting peace in the Tigray region, warning during a parliamentary briefing that those attempting to reignite conflict are doing so from positions of personal safety while their own families live securely in Addis Ababa and abroad. Speaking at the House of People's Representatives, the Prime Minister noted that the Pretoria Agreement is a highly fruitful peace deal, recalling that it was a negotiation where both the victor and the vanquished sat down to discuss as equals. He stated that by sitting down to negotiate with the defeated force after emerging victorious, feeding forces that were in distress, and providing substantial support, the government demonstrated its profound commitment to peace. He emphasized that the Pretoria Agreement should not be considered an ordinary negotiation, but rather a major peace initiative that has yielded numerous tangible results.

In accordance with the agreement, the prime minister detailed achievements, including the establishment of the Tigray Interim Administration; the demobilization of no fewer than 60,000 armed combatants from the military with necessary payments fulfilled through the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration program; the release of numerous prisoners and captives; and the restoration of discontinued basic services. The Prime Minister noted that following the Pretoria Agreement, disgruntled groups emerged, questioning why the government agreed to the deal, stating that these are forces who believe that not only the Tigray People's Liberation Front but the entirety of Tigray should have been destroyed. He also revealed that forces currently in Tigray frequently carry out numerous provocations capable of reigniting war.

Although there are entities with a strong desire to spark another war in the Tigray region, the prime minister remarked that the government has refused because war is destructive and pointless, reaffirming that their doors remain open for peace and dialogue. He added that even if the government sacrifices its own interests and suffers, its primary desire remains bringing lasting peace to Tigray, noting that undermining one another benefits no one. However, he underscored that a genuine and lasting solution for the people of Tigray will only be achieved when the leadership places its trust in its youth and gives opportunities to the next generation. Finally, he pointed out that the primary desire and goal of the Medemer government is to ensure that the development and growth witnessed in other Ethiopian cities are also realized and made accessible in Tigray.
