Aalborg Zoo in Denmark has issued a public appeal for donations of unwanted small pets and horses to feed its captive predators. The zoo, in a post on social media, explained that whole prey is a crucial part of the diet for its carnivores, helping to mimic natural hunting behaviors and providing essential nutrition.
The zoo is specifically looking for healthy chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs. It also stated that it would accept donations of horses, which can be claimed as a tax deduction.
"If you have a healthy animal that, for various reasons, needs a new home, please consider donating it to us," the zoo stated. "The animals are gently euthanized by trained staff and then used as feed. This ensures nothing goes to waste, while also promoting natural behavior, proper nutrition, and the overall well-being of our predators." The story is from CBS News.
