Feb 19, 2026 61

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed officially launched the construction of the Busa Gonofa Integrated Food Industry today, a large-scale project designed to bolster Ethiopia’s food security and industrial value chain.

The modern facility is set to specialize in the high-capacity processing of maize and soybeans. Once operational, it will produce specialized flours alongside 14 other maize-based products, significantly increasing the country’s value-added agricultural output.

Key Project Impact:

Massive Capacity: The plant is engineered to process 2,000 tons of maize and 120 tons of soybeans every single day.

Job Creation: The project is expected to generate employment for over 6,500 people through a mix of permanent and contract positions.

Economic Catalyst: By creating a reliable, large-scale market for local farmers, cooperatives, and seed producers, the facility aims to strengthen the regional agricultural ecosystem and stimulate the local economy.

In a statement following the launch, Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that the project is a critical step in enhancing the national value chain. By bridging the gap between raw production and finished goods, the Busa Gonofa facility is poised to reduce waste and increase the income of rural producers.
