Today, March 2, 2026, Ethiopia is colorfully celebrating the 130th anniversary of the Victory of Adwa. In a central ceremony held at the Adwa Victory Memorial, President Taye Atske Selassie laid a floral wreath to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation's independence.

The event, observed under the theme "From a Proud History to a Bright Horizon," brought together the country's top leadership to pay their respects. Following the President, wreaths were also laid by:

  • Tagesse Chafo: Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives
  • Field Marshal Berhanu Jula: Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces
  • Engineer Aisha Mohammed: Minister of Defense
  • Adanech Abiebie: Mayor of Addis Ababa
  • Deputy Commissioner General Melaku Fanta: Head of Crime Prevention at the Ethiopian Federal Police
  • Senior Leadership of the Ethiopian Ancient Patriots' Association

The Victory of Adwa, won in 1896, remains a global symbol of anti-colonial resistance. Today’s national celebrations in the capital serve as both a tribute to that historic triumph and a call for national unity toward a prosperous future.
