Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has detailed a transformative vision for Ethiopia, centered on modernizing urban landscapes and positioning the nation as a leading global tourism destination. The Prime Minister characterized these efforts as a "new face" for the country and a legacy of pride for future generations.

The Prime Minister highlighted the Addis Ababa Riverbank Development Project as a world-class model of environmental and social renewal. Spanning 50 kilometers and encompassing eight rivers, the project has successfully converted areas that were once toxic and hazardous into lush green spaces and attractive recreational hubs.

Key features of this development include:

Environmental Restoration: Black, polluted waters are being treated with modern methods to ensure clean flow, while waste is being recycled into fertilizer.

Community Well-being: The construction of extensive walkways and sports fields is fostering a healthier, more cohesive society.

National Expansion: This successful model is already being replicated in cities such as Hawassa, Bishoftu, and Bahir Dar as part of a national movement to utilize natural resources for sustainable urban growth.

Addressing the broader economic landscape, the Prime Minister noted that as traditional Western destinations see a decline in appeal, Africa and Ethiopia in particular has a strategic opportunity to claim a significant share of the global tourism market.

He pointed to the hundreds of international conferences hosted in Addis Ababa over recent months as proof of Ethiopia's growing preference. However, he emphasized that natural and historical assets must be matched by Service Excellence. The Prime Minister called for a shift in national mindset, urging citizens to replace "sternness" with "smiles and respect," starting from the moment guests arrive at the airport.

Prime Minister Abiy also detailed specific infrastructure projects aimed at making Ethiopia's destinations competitive with any in the world. Significant progress is being made in integrating history with modernity, such as:

Gondar: The restoration of the Fasil Ghebbi UNESCO site, coupled with the construction of modern hotels.

New Attractions: The creation of an artificial lake upon the completion of the Megech Dam, adding a fresh dimension to the northern circuit.

Regional Diversity: The development of comfortable, high-standard destinations across the East, North, South, and Bale regions.

The Prime Minister concluded by noting that the era of the Diaspora worrying about where to take their families is over. He called on all citizens to play their part in this national movement, ensuring Ethiopia becomes Africa's primary destination by delivering professional and competent hospitality.
