The Amhara Region Justice Bureau has announced that 1,224 prisoners have been granted pardons after demonstrating positive behavioral changes and meeting the required criteria during their rehabilitation. Dr. Ayalew Abate, the bureau's deputy head, stated in a briefing today that out of 1,463 pardon requests submitted to the Regional Pardon Board, the Regional Administrative Council approved the release of 1,224 individuals following a detailed review.
The official explained that these inmates qualified for the pardon by fulfilling all requirements of the pardon directives and showing significant character reformation, while 239 applications were rejected for failing to meet the necessary standards. This decision is intended to provide the individuals with an opportunity to reintegrate into society and lead peaceful lives.
