Protecting 130 Million People Through Sea Access

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) stated that maritime security has become more urgent than ever as global trade and industrial networks face increasing logistics risks across air, land, and sea.

The Prime Minister noted that the government has long maintained a firm stance that if Ethiopia remains cut off from the sea, 130 million people will face significant risk. He explained that the administration foresaw potential threats to maritime movement years ago.

Although this issue did not receive sufficient attention at the time, he observed that nations are now heavily exerting control over trade routes to serve their own interests or to disadvantage their rivals.

Because staying away from the sea or relying on a single trade route is no longer viable, the Prime Minister explained that Ethiopia has adopted a "proactive solution" by anticipating these logistics instabilities in advance to safeguard the nation's future.
