Ethiopia has achieved a landmark reduction in aid dependency, cutting the number of citizens requiring assistance from 27 million to 3 million, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced today. Highlighting the nation’s resilience, the Prime Minister stated that Ethiopia is being built on a foundation stronger than many realize, successfully navigating global economic shocks that have crippled other nations.

A major factor in this stability has been the government’s aggressive intervention in the energy sector. Despite a global fuel crisis that has forced international airlines to ground flights, Ethiopia has maintained uninterrupted domestic transport and airline operations. This was achieved through massive monthly fuel subsidies totaling up to 20 billion Birr, a move specifically designed to shield the public from rising global costs.

Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that Ethiopia’s development strategy is now delivering practical solutions to long-standing national challenges. He urged citizens to maintain a "shared vision," explaining that the government’s high-profile promotion of sectors like tourism is a strategic necessity. Unlike the industrial or agricultural sectors, such as Ethiopia's successful wheat production, tourism requires intensive marketing to yield results. 

Prime Minister Abiy concluded by calling for national persistence, noting that through hard work and a coordinated focus, the country is well-positioned to turn its vast opportunities into lasting prosperity for all citizens.
