The government has decided to restore the diesel supply to its previous levels effective today, according to Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide. In a statement issued today, the Minister announced that Ethiopia’s daily diesel supply has been ordered to return to the 9 million liters provided prior to the conflict in the Middle East. It is noted that the conflict in the Middle East caused an increase in international oil prices and created supply disruptions, following which Ethiopia's daily diesel supply had dropped to 4.5 million liters.
Minister Ahmed Shide stated that following the decision to restore the daily supply to its original 9 million liters, transportation from Djibouti to Addis Ababa begins today, while transport to regional states will start tomorrow. He further noted that the supply of gasoline and jet fuel has continued at full capacity throughout this period. To prevent the pressure of global supply disruptions on the economy, the Minister explained that the government has been providing fuel by purchasing it at high prices through special procurement.
Consequently, Finance Minister Ahmed disclosed that the government is currently subsidizing fuel by an additional 20 billion Birr per month beyond previous levels.
