The Information Network Security Administration (INSA) announced that it has successfully safeguarded Ethiopia’s digital sovereignty by thwarting over 50,000 cyber attack attempts aimed at the country over the past nine months. This disclosure came during the administration's review of its nine-month performance report for the 2018 fiscal year.

According to the report, a total of 50,155 cyber attacks were directed at key national infrastructure and various institutions during this period. Unauthorized intrusions, or hacking attempts, emerged as the primary threat, accounting for 20,601 of the incidents, representing 41 percent of the total volume. Despite the scale of these threats, the administration managed to completely neutralize 99 percent of the attempts through its advanced defense systems and 24-hour active monitoring.

The Director General of INSA, Tigist Hamid, stated that the administration has significantly modernized its capacity for early detection, prevention, and rapid response, which has led to more efficient operations. She further noted that, in addition to active defense, security audits were performed on 338 separate systems.

This proactive strategy has enabled institutions to preemptively reduce their vulnerability and strengthen their own internal security barriers, highlighting the administration's operational excellence and the growing reliability of the nation's digital security infrastructure.
