Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has announced that areas in Arada once notorious as hubs for crime have undergone a complete transformation, successfully evolving into premier tourist attractions. The Mayor noted that these riverbanks, formerly characterized by heavy pollution and insecurity, have been thoroughly revitalized into stunning and inviting public recreational spaces.
In conjunction with this urban development, significant work was undertaken to restore the city’s ancient history and establish a heritage that transcends generations. During the inauguration, it was highlighted that historical buildings in the vicinity were renovated to preserve their architectural integrity and aesthetic beauty while reflecting the dignity of the residents. Mayor Adanech emphasized that this initiative does more than just enhance the livability of Addis Ababa; it substantially elevates the city’s standing as a major tourism destination.
Furthermore, Mayor Adanech proudly proclaimed the installation of a massive 100-meter-tall national flag at the heart of the park, serving as a prominent symbol of Ethiopian pride and national honor. The site has been meticulously designed to foster social cohesion, featuring a grand plaza capable of accommodating 5,000 people, a large hall with a 2,000-seat capacity, as well as various smaller auditoriums and amphitheaters.
The Mayor assured the public that this landmark center will serve as a vital hub for community gatherings, artistic expressions, and diverse national and city-wide events, concluding with an invitation for all citizens to utilize and enjoy this new communal space.
