Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated that internationally recognized, viable options exist for Ethiopia to gain access to sea, according to an interview he gave to Al Arabiya television.

The President acknowledged that sea access is crucial for a countrys economy and security, noting Ethiopias long-held desire to secure it. He underscored that a path for Ethiopia to fulfill this ambition can be found through internationally accepted legal channels.

On the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the Somali leader said the project offers a significant contribution to the entire Horn of Africa region, not just Ethiopia. He confirmed that the dams primary purpose is to generate electricity, which he called the "foundation of any development,"and praised the GERD as a successful government project.

President Mohamud, who attended the dam's recent inauguration, highlighted Ethiopias current role in providing electricity to neighboring countries like Kenya, Sudan, and Djibouti. He also reiterated Somalias readiness to support efforts to find a positive resolution to the GERD negotiations among Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan.

He concluded by referencing the extensive shared border between the two countries and commending Ethiopia's continued participation in peacekeeping operations within Somalia under the African Union mission.
