Rwanda has launched Africa's first self-flying electric air taxi, the EH216-S, in a partnership with Chinese companies China Road and Bridge Corporation and EHang Holdings Limited. The autonomous vehicle made its inaugural public flight during the Aviation Africa 2025 Summit, signaling a new era of urban mobility.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame hailed the event as a look into the future of aviation in Africa, underscoring the importance of a robust air transport sector for economic development. The country's Minister of Infrastructure, Jimmy Gasore, further stated that the demonstration highlights Rwanda's ambition to become a central hub for advanced air mobility and a leader in creating sustainable urban environments.

The EH216-S, which is already in use in other parts of the world, boasts a top speed of 130 km/h and a range of 35 km, with a flight duration of about 21 minutes. According to CHINADAILY, this collaboration not only introduces an eco-friendly transport solution to address urban congestion but also serves as a model for leveraging the "low-altitude economy" to drive new development across the continent.
