Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and First Lady Zinash Tayachew have officially inaugurated the newly completed International Convention Center-Goro-VIP Corridor, a project hailed as a major milestone for Addis Ababa. Accompanied by high-level government officials, the Prime Minister's inspection tour marks the completion of an urban development initiative praised for enhancing not just infrastructure, but also the city’s overall quality of life.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, the dual-direction road is designed to connect Bole International Airport with CMC Road, creating a streamlined flow for traffic and improving connectivity across key areas of the capital.

The development spans a 290-hectare area and includes a 12.74-kilometer-long corridor. It features 15.27 kilometers of dedicated bicycle lanes and pedestrian walkways, encouraging a variety of transport options.

To enhance public transit efficiency, the corridor incorporates five modern taxi and bus stations, four vehicle parking lots, and 17 designated loading and unloading zones. These new facilities are expected to alleviate traffic congestion and streamline transportation services.

The project also showcases modern infrastructural upgrades, with electrical and telecom lines, drainage systems, and streetlights all installed underground. Beyond transportation, a 130-hectare riverside development has fundamentally revitalized the surrounding environment.

The Office of the Prime Minister highlighted the visible economic and social benefits of the project. This includes the renovation of over 320 buildings, the creation of green spaces, and the construction of 350 new shops that are now operational. The report concludes that business activity has flourished, traffic congestion has been reduced, and public transport services have been significantly improved. The new green spaces are expected to offer both aesthetic and health benefits to residents and visitors.
