Adem Farah, Deputy President of the Prosperity Party, emphasized the need to expand healthcare accessibility by leveraging community health initiatives and digital health technology, including artificial intelligence. This came during the second joint meeting of African and Caribbean health ministers.
During the meeting, which brought together health ministers from African Union and Caribbean nations, Adem highlighted Ethiopia's progress in the health sector. He noted that the government's focus on community health has led to a significant decrease in maternal and child mortality rates and a wider reach of community health insurance.
He urged both African and Caribbean countries to reduce their reliance on foreign aid by investing in their domestic health systems and utilizing internal resources.
Ethiopia's Minister of Health, Mekdes Daba, said the meeting serves as a critical platform for both regions to collaborate on strengthening their health sectors. She pointed out that African and Caribbean nations face similar challenges and should work together to produce their own medicines and build robust, mutually supportive health systems.
